The Job
When an overhang has been repaired in pieces over the years, you end up with what this one had: mixed materials, mismatched lines, and gaps for water and pests to find. The honest fix is not another layer. We stripped the overhang back to the structure, replaced the decking, and started fresh.
The new build: solid soffit panels with 1/2-inch J-channel all the way around, including the sides, new Azek 1x8 around the full perimeter, and every exposed edge wrapped in PVC trim coil. One system, one clean look, no seams cobbled together from different eras.
Why Azek and PVC at the Shore
Bradley Beach sits right in the salt air, and ordinary wood trim out here swells, rots, and sheds paint on a loop. Azek is a cellular PVC board, so it machines and installs like lumber but it cannot rot, and it never needs repainting to survive. Wrapping the remaining runs in PVC trim coil seals the rest of the perimeter the same way.
Solid soffit closes the underside off completely, which keeps birds, squirrels, and wind-driven rain out of the overhang. If your fascia boards are showing the early signs, here is what fascia rot looks like before it gets expensive.

The whole point of a rebuild like this is that it is the last time anyone has to think about this overhang for a long time. Clean lines from every angle, materials matched to the environment, and a structure underneath that we have actually seen and verified instead of buried under another layer.
