The Job
This one started the way every good guard job should, with a proper cleaning. We cleared these gutters end to end using compressed air and water, blowing the packed debris loose and flushing the runs so water had a clear path before anything went on top.
With the trough clean we added extenders along the run for extra support, so the gutters sit tight and stay put once the guards are on. Then the 5-inch RX aluminum gutter guards went down over the whole system, fastened along the edge with the shingle line kept tidy. You can see the finished run in the photos, a straight line of aluminum reading clean down the roof edge.
Why Clean First, Then Guard
A guard over a dirty gutter just traps the problem underneath it. The trough has to be clean and the downspouts have to be open before the guard goes on, otherwise you have covered up a clog you can no longer see. That is why we treat cleaning and guards as one job, not two.

Why 5-Inch RX Aluminum Guards
RX aluminum guards are rigid perforated panels sized to the gutter, in this case a standard 5-inch system. They let heavy rain through, screen out leaves and grit, and do not sag or crumble the way foam and plastic inserts do. Fastened properly, they hold up to wind and stay flat, which is what you want on a long shared roofline.
The payoff is simple: less maintenance and better water flow when the rain comes. Our honest take on whether guards are worth it depends on your roof and your trees, and for a lot of homes it is a clear yes.

About Working in Twin Rivers and East Windsor
Twin Rivers is the big planned community on the east side of East Windsor Township in Mercer County, right up against the Monmouth County line. It is a short hop from Millstone and Monroe, so even though it sits one county over from our home base, it is squarely in the neighborhood we work every week. The buildings here share long rooflines and tight shared parking, which means gutters have to be handled from a ladder with care, and a cleanup crew that actually cleans up.
