- Black half-round gutters on a tree-covered Fair Haven home were cleaned out of every leaf, needle, and bit of debris first.
- Custom stainless steel gutter guards, made in the USA, were then cut to fit on site for the half-round profile.
- Each piece is fastened along the entire gutter system to keep leaves out and water flowing freely.
The Job
This Fair Haven home has the kind of setting people move to town for: a wraparound porch, a brick patio out back, and a wall of tall arborvitae and old shade trees all around the roofline. It also has black half-round gutters, a classic look that suits the house perfectly. The catch is that those same trees drop needles, leaves, and seed debris straight into the gutters all year, and by the time we got up there the runs were packed solid.
So the job started the way every guard install should: with a full cleanout. Before a single guard goes on, the gutters have to be empty and flowing. Putting a guard over a gutter that is already half full of debris just locks the clog in, and that is one of the most common mistakes we see on other people's installs.
Cleaned Out First, Down to the Metal
We pulled the leaves, needles, and packed-in debris out of every run, including the valleys where the roof planes meet and the arborvitae hangs right over the edge. A couple of the photos below show what that looked like before we started. After the cleanout, the gutters were back to clean metal from end to end, ready for the guards.
Half-round gutters do a great job moving water when they are clear, but their open, rounded shape catches debris just as easily as it catches rain. In a yard like this one, that means a cleaning every few months without guards. With them, it is a different story.
Custom Stainless Steel Guards, Made in the USA
The guards we installed are stainless steel mesh, made right here in the USA. Stainless holds up to Jersey weather without rusting or sagging, and the fine mesh keeps leaves and needles on top where the wind and rain carry them off, while water drops straight through into the gutter.
Each piece was cut to fit this house, not forced into place. Half-round gutters need guards shaped and fastened for that profile, so every section was trimmed on site and secured along the entire gutter system, front porch, side runs, and the back by the shed included. The result keeps leaves out and water flowing freely, and the homeowner gets to enjoy those trees without paying for them every fall. We did similar work for a Port Monmouth homeowner just across the bay.

About Working in Fair Haven
Fair Haven is a small borough on the Navesink River, tucked between Red Bank, Rumson, and Little Silver, and it is one of the most tree-covered towns we work in. Big old oaks, maples, and tall arborvitae screens line almost every street, and the homes, many of them older colonials and farmhouses that have been lovingly redone, sit right under that canopy. It is beautiful, and it is also exactly the kind of setting where gutters fill up fast every fall and never quite stay clean.
That is why gutter guards make so much sense here. If you are in Fair Haven, Red Bank, or anywhere along the Navesink and you are tired of climbing the ladder every season, take a look at whether guards are worth it for your house, see what we do for gutters in Red Bank, or just call or text us for a free estimate.
