The Job
Marlboro keeps calling and we keep answering. This one is a classic Monmouth County colonial, cream siding with a brick entry, and its old gutters had reached the point where they were leaking at the seams and holding water in the runs instead of moving it. The fix was not a patch. We pulled the old system off the house completely and started fresh.
The new system is 6-inch white K-style seamless aluminum around the full roofline, paired with 3x4 downspouts. White keeps the clean look against the cream siding and white trim, and the oversized trough and outlets mean the long runs on a house this size drain fast instead of pooling. Sitting water is what kills gutters: it stresses the seams, rots the fascia behind them, and breeds mosquitoes all summer. The new runs are pitched right and drain dry.
The Rotted Wood Nobody Could See
Once the old gutters came down, the fascia told the real story: sections of rotted wood that had been soaking behind failing gutters for years. This is the part of a gutter job you cannot quote from the driveway, and the part some crews will happily hang new gutters right over. We do not, because a gutter is only as solid as the wood it is screwed into.
We cut out the rot and replaced it with new 1x6 treated pine, then wrapped it in aluminum so the new wood is sealed away from water for good. No More Leaks, No More Sitting Water
The last piece is where the water goes when it leaves the house. The downspouts drop clean at the corners and the extensions carry the discharge out through the planting beds, past the mulch and the foundation plantings, so roof water ends up away from the basement instead of soaking in against it.
Collect it in an oversized trough, move it through 3x4 downspouts, release it away from the house. It is the same recipe as our underground drainage project across town, sized to what this house needed. Ready to rock and roll.
