The Job
The back of this home is where everybody actually spends their time. Patio, grills, string lights, the whole setup. The trouble with a big roofline over a space like that is the first heavy rain turns the edge of the patio into a curtain of water and starts working on the foundation underneath.
We ran new seamless black K-style aluminum across the rear and the rest of the home, with downspouts placed to carry that runoff well clear of the patio and the slab. Now the water has somewhere to go that isn't the back of everyone's chairs.
Why Black Reads So Clean Here
On white siding, black is all contrast. It snaps a crisp line under the roof, frames the house, and makes the downspouts look intentional instead of tacked on. It's the same reason black window trim took off. The eye likes the definition.
Done in seamless aluminum, that line stays clean because there are no sectional joints breaking it up halfway across a run.
Protecting the Part of the House You Live In
Foundations are expensive and patios aren't cheap either. A properly sized, properly routed gutter system is the cheapest insurance you can put on both. The water comes off the roof, into the gutter, down the downspout, and out away from the house, instead of pooling where you walk and sit.
