The Job
This custom waterfront home had just been through a complete winter renovation, and it looked the part. Our job was the last piece, the part that keeps everything else dry once the weather turns. We wrapped it in new 5-inch white seamless K-style aluminum and ran 2x3 downspouts down the corners to carry water off and away from the base.
White was the right call here. It matches the crisp trim the renovation already leaned into and keeps that bright, breezy shore look the house has going, instead of drawing a hard line across it.
Why the Install Matters More at the Shore
Homes this close to the water take a beating that inland houses never see. Wind comes off the ocean with nothing to slow it down, salt air works on everything metal, and the rain tends to arrive sideways. A gutter system out here has to be fastened like it means it, because a loose run won't survive one nor'easter.
Aluminum is the right material this close to the water since it won't rust the way steel does once the salt gets at it. But the material is the easy part. Hangers have to bite into solid wood and downspouts have to be strapped tight and often, and that is where we spent the time on this house.
Sized for a Tall Roof
This one stands up there, three levels with a lookout on top, so every run had to be set with the height in mind. Water coming off a roof that tall hits the gutter with real force, so the 5-inch troughs and 2x3 downspouts were sized to take that volume and move it down without overflowing at the elbows.
Clean white line all the way around, downspouts carrying it down the corners and out away from the foundation. Exactly what a custom home in this spot needs to stay looking new.
